Acute Care Mission
Mohammed

Mohammed is a 4 year old boy who was diagnosed with Supravalvular Aortic Stenosis. This condition causes a narrowing of the valve betwen the Left Ventricle and the Aorta and does not allow the valve to fully open. Due to this restriction the heart is not capable of delivering proper amounts of oxygen rich blood to the body. This causes many different stresses on the heart such as the left ventricle enlarging as a result of working harder to get the blood out, decreased amounts of blood supplied to the coronary arteries (which deliver blood to the heart), and a higher risk of bacterial endocarditis (inflammation of the heart). To correct the condition, the team of doctors augmented (enlarged) the Aorta. The surgery was a success, and Mohammed will now have more energy to be able to run and play.
