Heart Mission
Once again, CINI partnered with the Indy Team and Gift of Life Amman (GOLA) for the Heart Mission of 2009. Some of the surgeries took place in Amman, Jordan while others were performed at the Kurdistan Cardiac Clinic in Iraq, a monumental step for the Indy Team. A total of 37 children were treated with 15 receiving surgical intervention, nine of those being emergency surgery.
It was not long ago that Surgeon Dr. Mark Turrentine stated:
"The parents come hoping that someone can do something for their child...they have heart defects that can easily be fixed, yet there is no place for them to get treatment in Iraq. Some go to Turkey and some to Israel, but the sad reality is that many will die waiting. Clearly the region needs a Pediatric Center for such surgeries and we hope that they contiue to progress toward that."
CINI is incredibly proud to be a part of Dr. Turrentine and GOLA's dream being realized. It was truly an extraodinary milestone, not only for the doctors, but for the Iraqi people as well. CINI would like to thank Dr. Turrentine and his staff for having such dedication and compassion toward these children. The patients were given so much more than just medical care...they were given hope.
